Why Reconditioned Is the Smart Choice

Reconditioned IBC totes deliver the same containment performance as brand-new units. The HDPE bottle, galvanized steel cage, and standardized pallet dimensions are identical to new. The only differences are the price tag and the environmental impact — both dramatically lower.

Every reconditioned tote in our inventory has gone through a rigorous six-step process: collection, inspection, cleaning, valve service, pressure testing, and relabeling. We stake our reputation on quality, which is why we back every unit with our satisfaction guarantee.

Our Process

6-Step Reconditioning Process

Every tote passes through our complete reconditioning pipeline. No shortcuts, no exceptions. Click on any step to see the full technical details.

1

Collection & Receiving

We collect used IBC totes from businesses across the country. Each tote is logged, tagged, and moved to our receiving area for initial assessment.

Our collection network spans manufacturing plants, food processors, chemical distributors, and agricultural operations nationwide. We pick up totes at no cost for loads of 20+ units. Each incoming tote is photographed, assigned a unique tracking number, and its previous contents are documented from the accompanying MSDS or shipping records. Totes that previously held hazardous materials follow separate handling protocols to ensure worker safety and environmental compliance.

2

Inspection & Grading

Trained inspectors evaluate every component: the HDPE bottle, steel cage, valve assembly, and pallet. Totes are graded A, B, or C based on condition. Units that fail structural inspection are routed to recycling.

Our 12-point inspection covers bottle wall integrity (using backlighting to detect micro-cracks), cage weld strength, tube straightness, zinc coating condition, valve operation and seal quality, pallet load-bearing capacity, and overall cosmetic appearance. Approximately 15% of incoming totes are rejected at this stage — we never compromise quality to increase throughput. Rejected totes are disassembled, and every material (HDPE, steel, wood) is separated for recycling.

3

Cleaning & Sanitization

Industrial-grade triple-rinse cleaning with heated water and approved detergents. Food-grade totes undergo additional sanitization to FDA/USDA standards. Our closed-loop wash systems recirculate water, reducing consumption by 80%.

The cleaning process begins with a high-pressure pre-rinse to remove residual contents. Next, heated water (180F+) mixed with biodegradable industrial detergent circulates through the tote for a minimum of 15 minutes. A final rinse with clean water removes all detergent residue. Food-grade totes receive an additional sanitization cycle using FDA-approved sanitizers, followed by a verified clean-water rinse and quality control testing to confirm no detergent or sanitizer traces remain. All wash water is treated through our on-site water treatment system before discharge.

4

Valve & Gasket Service

Every valve is disassembled, inspected, and rebuilt or replaced. New gaskets are installed to ensure a complete, leak-free seal. Cap threads are cleaned and tested.

Valve disassembly includes removing the handle, disc or ball, stem, and all seals. Each component is inspected for wear, corrosion, and chemical damage. Worn components are replaced with new OEM-spec parts. Fresh EPDM gaskets are installed on every valve regardless of apparent condition — gaskets are the most common failure point. The cap is removed, threads are cleaned and inspected for cross-threading damage, and a new cap gasket is installed. Both valve and cap are torqued to specification.

5

Pressure Testing

Each tote is filled and pressure-tested to verify structural integrity. We check for leaks at the bottle seams, valve connection, and cap seal. Only totes that pass move forward.

The pressure test fills the tote with water and applies positive air pressure above the rated operating specification. We hold pressure for a minimum of 5 minutes while inspecting every potential leak point: bottle blow-mold seams, valve-to-bottle thread connection, valve body seal, cap seal, and any areas that showed stress during visual inspection. Even a single-drop leak results in the tote being returned to repair or rejected. We test at 1.5x rated operating pressure to ensure a safety margin.

6

Labeling & Dispatch

Old labels are removed. New grade identification and tracking labels are applied. Totes are palletized and staged for shipment or added to ready inventory.

All original product labels, hazard placards, and shipping marks are completely removed using industrial adhesive solvents. New labels include the assigned grade (A, B, or C), our company tracking number, reconditioning date, and a QR code linking to the digital inspection record. For food-grade totes, a clearly visible food-grade certification label is applied. Totes are then organized by grade and size in our ready-to-ship inventory area, enabling same-day or next-business-day dispatch for most orders.

Reconditioned Totes FAQ

How long do reconditioned IBC totes last?
A reconditioned IBC tote typically lasts 3-5 additional fill cycles before requiring another reconditioning. The total lifespan of the steel cage and pallet can exceed 10 years with proper handling. The HDPE bottle can usually be reconditioned 3-5 times before it needs replacement.
Are reconditioned totes safe for food storage?
Yes, but only if they are certified food-grade. This means the tote was manufactured from FDA-compliant virgin HDPE and has only held food-safe contents throughout its lifecycle. We maintain full chain-of-custody documentation for all food-grade units. Non-food-grade totes cannot be converted to food-grade regardless of cleaning.
What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum order. We sell individual totes as well as full truckloads. Volume discounts begin at 10 units, with additional price breaks at 50, 100, and 500+ units.
Do you offer delivery?
Yes. We deliver nationwide via our dedicated fleet and logistics partners. Delivery pricing depends on quantity, destination, and urgency. Contact us for a shipping quote alongside your product quote.
Can I return a tote if it doesn't meet expectations?
Absolutely. Every reconditioned tote ships with our quality guarantee. If a tote does not meet the specifications of its stated grade, we will replace it at no additional cost.
What chemicals can I store in a reconditioned HDPE tote?
HDPE is compatible with a wide range of chemicals including most acids, bases, alcohols, detergents, and aqueous solutions. It is NOT compatible with gasoline, aromatic solvents (toluene, xylene), chlorinated solvents, or ketones (acetone). If you are unsure, send us your material safety data sheet (MSDS) and we will confirm compatibility before you order.
How do I know what was previously stored in a reconditioned tote?
We track the documented previous contents for every incoming tote. For food-grade units, we provide full chain-of-custody documentation. For standard industrial units, the previous contents category (food-safe, chemical, agricultural, etc.) is recorded during receiving. We can share this information upon request to ensure the tote is appropriate for your intended use.
Can reconditioned totes be used for hazardous material transport?
No. Reconditioned totes are intended for storage and on-site use, not for regulated hazardous material transport. UN-certified transport of dangerous goods requires new, certified containers with current-year manufacture dates and valid UN 31HA1 markings. If you need totes for hazmat transport, see our new totes with UN certification.
