From Concept to Delivery

The Modification Process: 5 Steps

We keep the process straightforward and transparent. You tell us what you need, we engineer the solution, build a prototype for your approval, and then produce the full batch. Here is exactly how it works.

01

Consultation

We discuss your application, product characteristics, regulatory requirements, operational constraints, and desired outcomes. This conversation defines the full modification scope.

02

Engineering & Design

Our engineering team designs the modification, selects materials and components, and creates technical drawings. You receive a detailed specification document and quote.

03

Prototype Build

For new or complex designs, we build a single prototype for your hands-on review and testing. You can validate fit, function, and compatibility before we commit to full production.

04

Production Run

Once the prototype is approved, we produce the full batch with consistent quality. Each modified tote follows the same specification and undergoes individual quality testing.

05

Testing & Delivery

Every modified tote is pressure-tested, leak-tested, and functionally verified before packaging. We deliver to your facility or stage for pickup at your convenience.

OEM Parts vs. Generic

We use OEM-quality or OEM-equivalent parts for every modification. When brand-name components are specified by the customer, we source directly from the manufacturer. For standard modifications, we use equivalent-spec components from trusted industrial suppliers that meet or exceed the original manufacturer specifications. All parts carry the supplier warranty in addition to our own workmanship guarantee.

Built to Perform

Quality Testing After Modification

Every modified tote undergoes a comprehensive testing protocol before it ships. We do not rely on visual inspection alone -- each modification is functionally verified to ensure it performs as designed under real-world conditions.

Leak & Pressure Testing

Modified valves, fittings, and ports are pressure-tested at 1.5x the rated operating pressure. The tote is filled with water, sealed, and monitored for a minimum hold period. Zero leaks are required to pass.

Valve Function Test

Every valve -- original or replacement -- is cycled open and closed multiple times to verify smooth operation, positive shut-off, and consistent flow characteristics. Cam-lock and quick-connect fittings are tested for secure engagement.

Heating System Verification

Heating blankets and immersion heaters are powered on and temperature is monitored at multiple points on the tote surface. Thermostat accuracy is verified within the specified tolerance band. Insulation effectiveness is measured.

Structural Load Test

Totes with cage modifications, reinforced corners, or custom pallets undergo static load testing at the rated stacking height. Dimensional verification confirms compatibility with standard racking and forklift equipment.

Mixing System Performance

Agitators and mixing systems are run at multiple speed settings to verify motor performance, paddle engagement, seal integrity, and vibration levels. Flow patterns are checked for adequate coverage.

RFID & Barcode Validation

Every RFID tag is scanned to confirm read/write functionality, range, and data accuracy. Barcode labels are scanned with multiple reader types to verify readability and correct encoding.

Test Documentation & Traceability

Every modified tote receives a test report documenting which tests were performed, the results, the technician who performed them, and the date. These records are retained for a minimum of 3 years and can be provided to your quality team on request. For regulated industries (food, pharmaceutical, chemical), we provide additional documentation per your specific requirements.

Real Projects

Custom Modification Examples

Here are a few examples of custom IBC tote modifications we have completed for clients across different industries. Every project starts with a consultation to understand your requirements.

Chemical Manufacturing

The Challenge

A specialty chemical producer needed IBC totes that could maintain product temperature above 140 degrees Fahrenheit during winter storage in an unheated warehouse.

Our Solution

We installed thermostat-controlled silicone heating blankets with insulated outer jackets on 200 totes. Each unit maintains temperature within a 5-degree range and includes a power indicator light for quick visual checks.

Food & Beverage

The Challenge

A beverage syrup manufacturer required sanitary fittings, full traceability, and a mixing system that could be cleaned in place for their bulk ingredient totes.

Our Solution

We retrofitted 150 totes with Tri-Clamp bottom discharge valves, RFID asset tags, and top-mounted magnetic drive mixers. Each tote received a food-grade certification and integration with the client's SAP inventory system.

Agriculture

The Challenge

A fertilizer distributor needed to dispense liquid product at two different flow rates from the same container without switching hoses.

Our Solution

We designed a dual-valve discharge system with a 3-inch high-flow ball valve for bulk transfer and a 1-inch metering valve for precision application. Both valves include cam-lock quick-connect fittings for tool-free hose attachment.

Common Questions

Custom Modifications FAQ

Can you modify totes that I already own, or do I need to buy new ones?

We modify both. You can send us your existing totes for modification, or we can supply new or reconditioned totes already modified to your specification. If you send your own totes, we inspect them first and let you know if any need repair before modification. There is no charge for this assessment.

Is there a minimum order quantity for custom modifications?

No. We modify as few as one tote. Single-unit modifications are common for prototyping, testing, or specialized applications. Volume discounts kick in at 10+ units, with the best pricing at 200+ units under an enterprise agreement.

How do I know which valve or fitting is right for my product?

That is exactly what our free engineering consultation is for. Tell us your product, operating conditions, and regulatory requirements, and we will recommend the right components. We also provide a material compatibility guide for common products. If you already know what you need, we are happy to build to your specification.

Do your modifications void the manufacturer warranty on the IBC tote?

Modifications to the HDPE bottle (drilling, threading, port installation) may void the original manufacturer warranty on the bottle. However, we provide our own workmanship warranty that covers all modifications for 12 months from delivery. The steel cage manufacturer warranty is typically unaffected by cage modifications.

Can you reverse a modification if my needs change?

Many modifications are reversible. Valve replacements can be swapped back, heating blankets can be removed, and RFID tags can be deactivated. However, modifications that involve drilling the HDPE bottle (port additions, sight gauges) are permanent. If reversibility is important, let us know during consultation and we will design with that in mind.

What warranty do you provide on custom modifications?

All modifications carry a 12-month workmanship warranty from the date of delivery. This covers defects in our work -- leaks at fittings we installed, failure of valves we mounted, heating blanket wiring issues, etc. Component manufacturer warranties (on valves, heaters, RFID tags) apply in addition to our workmanship guarantee and typically range from 1-3 years depending on the part.
